The trickle down effect of our current economic situation also affects our pets. With the amount of home foreclosures, pets are being dropped off at animal shelters across the country in record numbers as families must find rentals or smaller accommodations for living, many of which will not allow pets. The rising food costs are finding low income families and fixed income Seniors being economically forced to give up their pets. Please consider purchasing a bag of dog or cat food and donating it to your local food bank to help those with pets keep them well fed. This may help reduce the amount of animals left at the shelter and allow those on a fixed income to enjoy their companions. If you pass this idea along, via email or phone, to friends and relatives across the country it may help Animal Shelters feed the many new critters being left to their care. |
