Holiday Trip to New York

Have you heard the saying “you just had to be there!” ? This was one of those magical trips where that applies. Norm and I met Merle and Shari at the Wellington hotel in New York on Sunday night, Dec. 4th.

Monday morning it was off to see the sights on the hop on/hop off tour bus, Times Square, lunch and dessert on the lower East side, toured Brooklyn, saw the huge Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center and the ice skaters. Monday night we went to the Rockette's Christmas Show which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

Tuesday we went to the Statue of Liberty and toured Ellis Island. We had an early dinner as Merle & Shari were going to see “Jersey Boys”. The gals waiting our table were outstanding, made the meal memorable.

Wednesday morning a heavy rain storm rolled in but Merle & Shari weathered the storm and went to the 9/11 memorial site. Breakfast at the Carnegie Deli where Norm finally got to order his New York Corned Beef Sandwich. Norm's Fish Platter in France has always been a family joke, but he's outdone the fish platter with this sandwich. We were short on time so we packed up and headed back home. All in all it was a special holiday treat, fine food, Merle & Shari were great to travel with and we all agreed we had done our share to contribute to the economic recovery!
